Arts hold up a mirror to the society. This is useful only when the society stops to look at the mirror. Many of the classical art forms, much like “Sensible Cinema” (or in other words, the only genre worthy of the name, Cinema) are faced with a survival problem. It is at this crucial time-line that this website is trying to make a foot-print. The idea is to offer a resistance to the erosion of sensitivity and sensibility, mainly in the art form of Cinema but not to exclude, other arts as well when such issues need to be addressed.
The Master film-makers of yesteryears have shown that technology is only a tool. What is more important is the Vision of the film-maker. Trying to keep this balance in mind, this website, would like to involve itself in an interactive dialog with its audience expecting them to contribute as much and more towards the evolution of a healthy society where genuine art is honored and culture is respected.
Lakshmisurya Academy for Cinematographic Excellence (LACE) is an organization, which aims to evolve sensible cinema a commonplace culture. It is an informal group of few enthusiastic film buffs from different professions - from cinematography to acting, software engineering to medicine and so forth. This group is headed by ace cinematographer of the country Shri G.S. Bhaskar. Based out of Bangalore, LACE started its journey with a workshop on cinematography led by maestro Shri V. K. Murthy on December 28, 2001. Since then, at LACE, we have screened films of international acclaim, organized weekend film festivals, conducted workshops in Bangalore & Mysore and have been cultural partners in organizing Bangalore International Film Festival (BIFFes).
So far we have organized two weekend film festivals - 'Latin American Film Festival' in April 2005 and 'Festival of War Films' in August 2005. We collaborated with Max Mueller Bhavan (Goethe Institute), Bangalore to organize two film festivals in November 2005. From 2006, we are part of organizing Bangalore International Film Festival (BIFFes) joining hands with Suchitra Film Society. |
