Lakshmisurya Academy for Cinematographic Excellence (LACE) started its journey with a workshop on cinematography led by maestro Shri V. K. Murthy on December 28, 2001. Since then, we have conducted workshops in Bangalore & Mysore. The workshops, which are now an annual event in the cultural calendar of Bangalore, have helped many enthusiasts to take a closer look at the process of film making, appreciate the art form better and pursue serious study in film schools. It has helped amateurs and experimental filmmakers to understand nuances of the art form. The workshops organized by LACE in the previous years are:
December 2008 - 'Appreciating Cinematography', a workshop with Sunny Joseph (FTII graduate, National award winning cinematographer), G. S. Bhaskar (FTII graduate & renowned cinematographer) & H. M. Ramachandra (FTII graduate, National award winning cinematographer).
May 2008 – ‘Film Apprecisation Workshop’ with Prof K. Hariharan (Director, LV Prasad Film & TV Academy, Chennai) & Prof N. Manu Chakravarthy (Writer & Cultural critique)
December 2007 – ‘Script Writing Workshop’ with Prof Arun Gupta (Lecturer, Film & Video Department, National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad)
December 2005 - 'Lecture Demonstration about Fundamentals of Filmmaking' with G. S. Bhaskar (FTII graduate, renowned cinematographer), Jayant Kaikini (Renowned writer, lyricist) , V. G. Bhaskar (Renowned editor & post-production specialist) and Gokul Abhishek (Sound designer)
December 2004 - 'Focus on Cinema' a workshop with cinematographer Madhu Ambat (FTII graduate, National award winning cinematographer)
December 2003 – ‘Workshop on Script-writing and Direction’ with Girish Kasaravalli (FTII graduate, Four times National award winning director), Jayant Kaikini (Renowned writer, lyricist) , B. Jayashree (NSD graduate, renowned actor, doyen of Kannada theater), T. N. Seetharam (Noted writer, Filmmaker), K. R. Swamy (Renowned editor)
December 2002 - 'In Pursuit of Excellence' workshop with S. Ramachandra (FTII graduate, National award winning cinematographer), Kanaka Murthy (Renowned sculptor and cineaste) , Chandranath Acharya (Renowned painter, arts teacher and art director)
